More Adventure Fantasy Books - Midnight Tides
Steven Erikson has put together something fantastic with his series: Tale from the Malazan Book of the Fallen. With this series he has touched on all aspects of the fantasy world, being both epic and modular. Each book does a very good job of standing on its own. Beginning at the fourth editon The House of Chains the books introduce a brand new character by adanonding the throughline of the series in the beginning of the book to exclusively tell the story of a new character that will then, later in the book, be integrated into the main story line.
This series has, to date, been my favorite series other than A Game of Thrones. But Midnight Tides falls well short of the previous works. It takes on shades of other ordinary fantasy novels that replace grit and superb story telling for humor and somewhat likable characters. This book is a *** out of 5 work in a series that has, through the first four, been first class. I LOVE the Malazan series and will continue to talk about their amazing story lines (which are only slightly touched upon in this book) because they are, quite simply, amazing.
